5 paragraph essay, The Pigman In the novel The Pigman, there are three lonely characters, Angelo, John, and Lorraine who seem to need some fun. First, John is lonely because his parents reject him, and has nobody to love. Next, Lorraine is lonely because she is often discriminated by her looks, and weight. Finally, Angelo is lonely because his wife is dead, and needs company. The friendship between John, Lorraine, and Angelo develops quickly, because they each are socially neglected, and need each others’ friendship.
It has been noted that John, handsome yet lonely, needs someone caring to hangout with. Mr. Pignati fulfills this need better than John’s parents. John and his father aren’t quite attached towards each other because John is constantly in a conflict with his dad. Another reason John isn’t attached to his parents is because his parents are discouraging his dream of becoming an actor. This reminds John of an attaché suitcase and annoys him. Although John’s relationship with his parents aren’t too great Lorraine on the other hand is being judged by her own mom, and lacks self confidence.
Furthermore, Lorraine, shy but caring, feels isolated from her own family and school. In school, Lorraine has no friends except for John. And at home Lorraine’s mom judges Lorraine and says things like, “You’re not a pretty girl, Lorraine” which at times, makes Lorraine cry herself to sleep. But John, unlike Lorraine’s mom, calls Lorraine beautiful and says that, “her mom makes it sound like Lorraine needs internal plastic surgery, but if you ask me all she needs is self-confidence” (15). On one hand Lorraine is socially unaccepted, while on the other hand Mr. Pignati is lonely and needs someone to have fun with.
Angelo Pignati, lonely like John and Lorraine, is an old man who is lonely after his wife, Conchetta, died. When John and Lorraine were invited to Mr. Pignati’s house he served them wine and snacks in a caring manner. When they went to the mall later on, John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati were skating, just like kids having fun. Later on, when they were shopping Mr. Pignati was putting everything in the shopping cart that John and Lorraine were looking at, to make them happy. Even though Mr. Pignati, John and Lorraine became close friends, there is always a chance that fun and trust can get too far.
Even though John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati had a lot of fun, Mr. Pignati eventually diesof a heart attack at the zoo. That was where the fun ended, and John and Lorraine at that point knew they had grown up. John, was a very handsome boy who was lonely, now grew up. Lorraine was a girl who was mistreated, now confident. Mr. Pignati is dead, but now at peace. These three characters are no longer lonely nor shy, as they have came of age into mature adults.
